The greatest and most fulfilling relationship anyone can have is the one with God our Creator. Unfortunately, we were born with a sin nature, sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). The good news is God has made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through His Son Jesus Christ.
How can you know God?
1. Acknowledge you are a sinner.
The Bible says all of us have broken God’s commandments, “There is none righteous, no not one.” (Romans 3:10) and “all have sinned” (Romans 3:23).
2. Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
Believe Jesus died on the cross and rose again from the dead as payment for your sins. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead you shall be saved” (Romans 10:9). Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
3. Change direction. Turn from a sinful way of life.
The Bible says, “God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent (the word repent means to change direction, i.e. away from your sins), because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:30-31). You can have your sins forgiven and begin experiencing a relationship with God today.
Pray something like this…
“Lord I realize I am a sinner. I realize I need your forgiveness. I believe You paid the price for my sins on the cross. I believe You rose again from the dead and want to have a relationship with me. Come into my life, forgive me, be my Lord, be my God. I want to turn away from my sins and follow You. Change me, empower me with Your Holy Spirit to live my life for You. In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer, and meant it, you’ve begun a relationship with Jesus Christ. God has forgiven you of your sins.
Now what? We encourage you to…
1) Pray, speak openly to God.
2) Begin reading the Bible… Try starting with the Gospel of John.
3) Go to church, a church that teaches through the Bible verse by verse.
